How to read a table
- Rows go across. Columns go down.
- To find a value: find the right row, then the right column, and read where they meet.
- Always read the headings, including the units (seconds, cm, m, £).
Class reading record
| Name | Books read | Pages read |
|---|---|---|
| Sam | 4 | 320 |
| Mia | 6 | 410 |
| Leo | 3 | 275 |
How many pages did Mia read? → find Mia’s row, go across to “Pages read” → 410
Timetables
Timetables use the 24-hour clock: 13:00 is 1 pm, 15:30 is half past 3 in the afternoon.
To find how long a journey takes, count on from the start time to the end time: 08:15 → 08:45 is 30 minutes.
Watch out! In a race, the smallest time is the fastest. In a jump or throw, the biggest number wins.
Top tip: put a finger on the row and another on the column, and slide them together so you don’t read the wrong line.
